Comparative of Digital Pressure Gauges and Pointer Pressure Gauges

2025-07-09370 have been browsing

In the field of industrial measurement, digital pressure gauges and pointer pressure gauges are the two most common pressure measurement tools. They have significant differences in technical principles and application scenarios. The following is an analysis of the main differences between the two:

1.Discrepancy in measurement principles.

Digital pressure gauge: uses an electronic sensor as a pressure sensing element to measure the pressure by detecting the change of the sensor's resistance, and displays the pressure value on the screen through the electronic circuit.

Pointer pressure gauge: The pointer is driven by the deformation of the spring tube under the action of pressure to indicate the pressure value on the dial, with a simple structure and relying on mechanical transmission.

2. Accuracy and reading method

Digital pressure gauge: with high precision, generally up to ±0.5%FS ±0.25%FS ±0.1%FS ±0.05%FS ±0.02%FS or higher, and digital display, no parallax, easy to read, to avoid the error caused by human eye observation. Pointer pressure gauge: the accuracy is low, generally only up to ±2.5%FS  ±1.6%FS  ±1.0%FS or higher, the reading depends on the human eye, there is a reading error.

3. Environmental adaptability

Digital pressure gauge: using all-electronic circuit, almost not affected by external vibration, outstanding seismic performance. Pointer pressure gauge: not resistant to vibration, vibration can easily lead to damage, and it needs to be kept vertical when reading.

4. Functional expansion

The digital pressure gauge supports a variety of intelligent functions, including: real-time data recording, remote transmission, alarm setting, unit switching.

Pointer pressure gauge: simple structure, easy maintenance, strong anti-interference ability, suitable for harsh environments, but low accuracy and response speed

5. Economic considerations

Digital pressure gauge: usually the price is higher, but the maintenance cost is lower because its structure is simple and not easy to damage. Pointer pressure gauge: the price is lower, However, regular maintenance is required, and the maintenance cost is high.

In conclusion, Digital pressure gauges have obvious advantages in accuracy, reading methods and additional functions, and are suitable for high-precision and automated control fields; while pointer pressure gauges have more advantages in price and maintenance costs, and are suitable for simple measurements and harsh environments.
